White Rose Otto Essential Oil (Rosa x alba)

Origin: Native to Europe, with a long history of cultivation dating back to ancient Roman times. The oil is steam-distilled from the fresh petals of the white rose, which belongs to the Rosaceae (rose) family. Rosa x alba is an ancient hybrid, believed to be a cross between Rosa damascena and Rosa canina, and is one of the oldest cultivated rose varieties in existence. White rose otto is considerably rarer than Damask rose otto (Rosa damascena), as fewer growers cultivate this variety for distillation. Like all rose ottos, the yield is extraordinarily low – thousands of kilograms of petals are required to produce a small quantity of oil, with harvesting done by hand in the early morning hours.

Scent: Fresh, delicate, and luminously floral with a soft, cool, green character. Lighter and more ethereal than Damask rose otto – there's a distinctive, crisp, dewy, almost aqueous quality balanced by a gentle, honeyed sweetness. Subtly waxy and powdery with a faint, spicy, tea-like depth. More transparent, greener, and cooler than its Damask counterpart, with a quiet, refined elegance. Exquisitely delicate, serene, and beautifully nuanced – a rare, sophisticated rose scent of exceptional purity and subtlety.

Uses:

  • Highly prized in natural perfumery as a rare, delicate rose accent – adds a luminous, green, dewy freshness and ethereal elegance to blends
  • A beautiful addition to diffuser blends, bringing a soft, refined, romantic atmosphere to any space
  • Used in candle making and soap crafting for its exquisite, delicate, floral character
  • Blends beautifully with Damask rose, jasmine, neroli, bergamot, sandalwood, frankincense, geranium, cedarwood, vetiver, and vanilla oils
  • Popular in artisan fragrance work for floral, romantic, green, and luxury compositions
  • A rare and precious alternative to Damask rose otto for those seeking a lighter, cooler, more transparent rose character

We also stock premium Rose Otto Essential Oil from Bulgaria and Turkey (see our other listings)

Important Information:

  • For External Use Only
  • White rose otto may solidify or become semi-solid at cooler temperatures – this is natural and does not indicate a quality issue. Gently warming the bottle between the hands will return it to liquid form
  • Always dilute with a suitable carrier oil before applying to skin
  • Perform a patch test before use
  • Consult a qualified professional before use if pregnant or nursing
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Store in a cool, dark place to preserve freshness – rose otto improves and deepens with age when stored correctly
