Lilium candidum — the Madonna Lily — is one of the oldest cultivated flowers in human history, depicted in Minoan frescoes over three thousand years old and associated with purity and devotion across Mediterranean and Christian tradition alike. As a perfumery material it is genuinely rare: true lily absolute and extract are notoriously difficult to produce, and much of what circulates in the trade under the name "lily" is of uncertain or blended origin. This extract is produced by supercritical CO₂ extraction from Bulgarian-grown Lilium candidum flowers — a modern extraction method that captures the aromatic profile of the fresh bloom with a fidelity that solvent extraction cannot always achieve, while avoiding solvent residue entirely.

Perfumery Applications

Madonna Lily CO₂ Extract functions as a white-floral heart material, bringing a creamy, waxy, luminous "true lily" body to compositions — particularly valuable when floral richness is wanted without relying solely on jasmine or tuberose. It is well suited to white floral bouquets, lily-centred soliflores, aldehydic florals, and green-floral modern natural compositions where its subtle green nuance helps keep the floral character realistic. Its waxy, slightly sweet floral core adds volume and creaminess to airy florals and smooths transitions between citrus openings, floral hearts, and balsamic or woody bases.

Because lily materials are extremely potent, start at 0.05–0.5% in the concentrate and adjust gradually; a maximum guidance of up to 4% applies for lily-type materials generally, but most compositions will need far less.
