Faux Acacia Blossom CO₂ Extract — Spring Sunlight in a Bottle

Few spring trees announce themselves as generously as Robinia pseudoacacia — the faux acacia, also known as the black locust. In late spring across Bulgaria and southern Europe, its cascading clusters of creamy white flowers fill the air with one of nature's most intoxicating floral signatures: honeyed, luminous, and achingly beautiful, with a warmth and sweetness that lifts everything around it.

Known in the Grasse perfumery tradition as faux acacia — literally "false acacia," so named because early European botanists mistook it for a true acacia when it arrived from North America in the 17th century — this is a material with genuine heritage in fine fragrance. Capturing its living scent has historically been the challenge. Traditional solvent extraction produces a material that, while useful, sacrifices some of the top-note brightness that defines the flower in bloom. Supercritical CO₂ extraction changes that entirely — operating at precise pressures and temperatures that preserve the flower's full aromatic spectrum without heat damage or chemical residues. The result is a golden, velvety extract of rare luminosity and complexity: one that perfumers describe as simultaneously floral, honeyed, and ethereal, with facets reminiscent of jasmine, mimosa, and orange blossom woven together into something that is unmistakably its own.

Scent Profile

The opening is bright and immediately captivating — green floral with a fresh honey-nectar quality and a subtle citrus lift that speaks of the flower just opening in morning light. The heart is where this material truly reveals itself: a deep, creamy floral with jasmine-like indolic warmth, orange blossom sweetness, and a soft vanillic undertone contributed by natural coumarin. Farnesol adds a smooth, musky depth that gives the extract remarkable diffusion and projection. The drydown is soft, balsamic, and powdery — a whisper of warm wood and honey that lingers with quiet elegance long after the brighter top notes have faded.

Faux Acacia CO₂ Extract occupies a distinct and largely uncontested position in the natural perfumer's palette — neither the powdery earthiness of mimosa nor the narcotic intensity of jasmine, but a luminous, honeyed white floral with genuine versatility across fragrance families. Its CO₂ extraction gives it a brightness and authenticity that solvent-extracted white florals cannot match.

In spring and romantic floral compositions it is an outstanding centrepiece or supporting note, adding a honeyed radiance that lifts surrounding materials and gives the accord genuine naturalness. In gourmand structures its vanillic-coumarin base notes add a warm sophistication alongside tonka, vanilla, and benzoin. In woody-floral compositions it provides a luminous bridge between floral heart notes and woody bases, smoothing the transition with characteristic grace.
