Tea Tree Essential Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Origin: Native to Australia, primarily found in the coastal and wetland regions of New South Wales and Queensland. Australia remains the most notable producer, though tea tree is now also cultivated in parts of China, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. The oil is steam-distilled from the leaves and terminal branches of the tea tree, which belongs to the Myrtaceae (myrtle) family. Tea tree is unrelated to the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) – the name is believed to have originated from 18th-century sailors who used the leaves to make a tea-like infusion. Tea tree is one of the most widely recognised and extensively researched essential oils in the world, with a deeply established place in Australian aromatic traditions. Indigenous Australian peoples have valued the plant for generations.
Scent: Fresh, clean, and strongly herbaceous with a sharp, camphoraceous, slightly astringent character. Bold and penetrating – there's a distinctive, green, eucalyptus-like brightness balanced by a subtle, warm, slightly spicy depth. Faintly earthy and woody with a dry, bracing undertone. Crisp, sharp, and immediately recognisable – a classic, no-nonsense, clean herbal scent that is one of the most distinctive and widely known in the essential oil world.
Uses:

- A popular addition to diffuser blends, bringing a fresh, clean, bracing atmosphere to any space
- Widely used in candle making and soap crafting for its bold, clean, herbaceous character
- One of the most popular oils in natural household products for its strong, fresh, clean scent profile
