Sideritis Mountain Tea CO₂ Wax — An Ancient Balkan Herbal Rarity

Sideritis scardica — known throughout the Balkans as Greek mountain tea, ironwort, or shepherd's tea — has been gathered from the high mountain slopes of Bulgaria and Greece for centuries, traditionally brewed as a revered tonic said to promote vitality and longevity. This CO₂ wax offers a genuinely rare opportunity to work with the material as a perfumery ingredient rather than a beverage — capturing its full aromatic and lipid complexity in concentrated wax form.

As the pure wax is solid at room temperature, we supply it at 50% in IPM (isopropyl myristate) — a lightweight ester that gives a notably clear, workable pourability while preserving the material's distinctive herbal character.

Scent Profile

Fresh and green-herbal with a subtle underlying sweetness — a genuinely complex profile combining bright mountain-herb top notes with woody facets and a soft, comforting drydown of hay, amber, and warm resin. This is a material of real depth and character, evolving considerably from its fresh opening through to its warm, resinous base.

Perfumery Applications

A genuinely unusual and rarely encountered material for perfumers seeking authentic herbal-woody complexity beyond the familiar lavender-rosemary-sage palette. Its evolution from fresh green herb to warm amber-resinous base makes it a compelling bridge material, well suited to fougère-adjacent compositions, herbal orientals, and structures seeking a genuinely original mountain-herb character.

Blending Suggestions

Pairs beautifully with lavender, clary sage, bergamot, labdanum, benzoin, vetiver, cedarwood, sandalwood, oakmoss, and soft musks.
