Scots Pine Essential Oil (Pinus sylvestris)
Origin: Native to Europe and northern Asia, found widely across Scotland, Scandinavia, Russia, the Baltic states, and parts of central Europe. It is one of the most widely distributed pine species in the world. The oil is steam-distilled from the needles and small twigs of the Scots pine tree, which belongs to the Pinaceae (pine) family. Scots pine is one of the most iconic trees of the northern European landscape and holds deep cultural significance across Scottish, Scandinavian, and Russian traditions. It has a long-established place in aromatic traditions and remains a valued ingredient in perfumery and artisan fragrance work.
Scent: Fresh, clean, and brightly resinous with a crisp, green, coniferous character. Bold and bracing – there's a sharp, turpentine-like freshness balanced by a warm, sweet, balsamic depth. Subtly dry and earthy with a faint, herbaceous, slightly camphoraceous undertone. Vibrant, grounding, and immediately recognisable – a classic, robust pine scent that is sharper and more resinous than fir oils, with a distinctive, bracing, northern European character.
