Pink Peppercorn Essential Oil (Schinus molle)
Also known as : Peruvian Peppertree
Origin: Native to South America, particularly Peru, Brazil, and Argentina, now widely naturalised across tropical and subtropical regions including parts of Africa, the Mediterranean, and the southern United States. The oil is steam-distilled from the dried berries (fruit) of the Peruvian pepper tree, which belongs to the Anacardiaceae (cashew/sumac) family. Despite its common name, pink peppercorn is not a true pepper – it is botanically unrelated to black pepper (Piper nigrum). The tree is also known as the Peruvian peppertree, American pepper, or false pepper. Pink peppercorn has gained increasing popularity in modern perfumery and artisan fragrance work for its delicate, bright, unusual spice character.
Scent: Bright, warm, and delicately spicy with a fresh, fruity, slightly sweet character. Light and refined – there's a distinctive, rosy, berry-like warmth balanced by a subtle, green, woody freshness. Faintly peppery and resinous with a soft, dry, almost floral undertone. Elegant, nuanced, and surprisingly gentle – a softer, sweeter, more fruity spice scent than black pepper, with a distinctive, pink, berry-like brightness. Sophisticated and versatile.
Uses:
- Valued in natural perfumery as a bright, fruity, spicy accent – adds a delicate, rosy warmth and an unusual, berry-like freshness to blends
- A lovely addition to diffuser blends, bringing a warm, bright, subtly spicy atmosphere to any space
- Used in candle making and soap crafting for its delicate, fruity, aromatic character
- Blends beautifully with rose, geranium, bergamot, frankincense, sandalwood, cedarwood, black pepper, cardamom, grapefruit, and vanilla oils
- Popular in artisan fragrance work for spicy, floral, fresh, and contemporary compositions
- A more delicate and refined alternative to black pepper oil for those seeking a softer, fruitier spice quality
