Kannauj Tuberose Absolute — Rat Ki Rani, the Mistress of the Night

In India, tuberose is known as rat ki rani — the Mistress of the Night — for the cream-coloured flowers that open after dark and release one of the most intoxicating scents in all of perfumery. This absolute is extracted from the fresh blossoms of Polianthes tuberosa grown in northern India, the heartland of a perfumery tradition centred on Kannauj that stretches back centuries.

Where our LMR Indian Tuberose Absolute is prized for its clarity and diaphanous drydown, this Kannauj absolute is a different creature: earthy and heady, with hints of vanilla and caramel beneath the white-floral heart — an authentic, characterful tuberose for a very special artisanal creation.

As the pure absolute is exceptionally concentrated, we supply it at 50% in natural triethyl citrate (TEC) — an odourless carrier that makes it easy to measure and work with while preserving the full character of the absolute. At this strength it remains a rich, powerful material that rewards careful, drop-by-drop use.

Scent Profile

Ethereal yet earthy, with the intoxicating, heady fragrance that tuberose is famous for. Hints of vanilla and caramel soften the white-floral heart, giving it a warm, slightly gourmand richness that is quite different from cleaner, greener tuberoses.

Perfumery Applications

Frequently found as a middle note in expensive premium perfumes, tuberose is a cornerstone of white-floral compositions and a luxurious addition to oriental and gourmand structures. A trace can naturalise and enrich a jasmine-and-rose accord, and used more generously it becomes an unmistakable centrepiece. As with all absolutes, evaluate it in a diluted state to appreciate its full complexity, including the rarer and more exotic notes.

Blending Suggestions

Pairs beautifully with jasmine, rose, ylang ylang and narcissus, and with orange blossom, neroli, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin and soft musks.
