Chinese Osmanthus Absolute — The Gold Standard, Produced by LMR

Given its rarity and cost, genuine osmanthus absolute is only produced by a handful of companies in the world — the "supreme five" natural materials houses (LMR, Floral Concept, V. MANE Fils, Payan Bertrand, and Robertet), alongside a small number of mid-range producers. This absolute is manufactured by LMR — widely regarded as the finest source for this exceptional material — solvent extracted from Chinese-grown Osmanthus fragrans flowers to yield a viscous, deep gold liquid of extraordinary complexity.

Osmanthus is one of the great fruity-floral materials in fine perfumery — an aromatic profile so distinctive that experienced perfumers describe genuine osmanthus as unlike anything else in nature: the succulent scent of ripe apricots meeting the refined, slightly leathery elegance of a well-appointed stable. As the pure absolute is exceptionally concentrated, we supply it diluted at 50% in TEC (triethyl citrate) — the same carrier used by the manufacturer's own standard preparation of this material, chosen for its proven compatibility, ensuring a genuinely stable and workable material without compromising the authentic character of the original absolute.

Scent Profile

A complex floral-fruity opening with distinctive apricot and peach facets — succulent, ripe, and immediately recognisable as genuine osmanthus. Subtle leather undertones develop beneath the fruit, adding an unexpected sophistication that recalls the finest tea-scented leather goods. A refined, tea-like character weaves through the composition, combining delicate sweetness with genuine complexity and depth. The drydown is long and elegant, leaving a lingering trace of apricot-leather warmth.

Perfumery Applications

A defining heart note material for floral, oriental, fruity, and modern compositions where genuine osmanthus character is required. Its refined fruity-floral profile elevates any composition it enters, adding sophistication and depth that no synthetic reconstruction can replicate. Given its genuine rarity and expense, it is typically used as a signature note rather than a background material — the centrepiece around which an entire composition can be built.

IFRA 51: restricted to 0.3% in finished product (Category 4) — a genuinely tight restriction reflecting the material's potency. Plan formulations carefully around this limit.

Blending Suggestions

Pairs beautifully with rose absolute, jasmine, tea absolute, leather accords, oud, sandalwood, cedarwood, peach and apricot notes, vanilla, tonka bean, and soft musks.
