Nerolina Essential Oil (Melaleuca quinquenervia ct. linalool / nerolidol)

Origin: Native to Australia, particularly found across the coastal regions of New South Wales and Queensland. The oil is steam-distilled from the leaves and terminal branches of the nerolina tree, which belongs to the Myrtaceae (myrtle) family. Nerolina is a specific chemotype of Melaleuca quinquenervia that is characterised by its high linalool and nerolidol content, giving it a distinctly different scent profile from niaouli, which is another well-known chemotype of the same species dominated by 1,8-cineole. Despite sharing the same botanical species name, nerolina and niaouli produce dramatically different oils. The name "nerolina" reflects its soft, neroli-like quality. It is a relatively recent addition to the international essential oil market and has gained rapidly increasing recognition among artisan perfumers and blenders for its unique, gentle, floral character.

Scent: Soft, sweet, and gently floral with a fresh, woody, slightly citrusy character. Smooth and refined – there's a distinctive, linalool-rich, neroli-like brightness balanced by a warm, sweet, rosy depth. Faintly green and herbaceous with a subtle, woody, almost sandalwood-like undertone. Delicate, elegant, and beautifully balanced – a unique scent that bridges the freshness of neroli with the softness of rosewood, without the sharpness of either. Often described as one of the most elegant and versatile oils in the Australian native range.

Uses:

  • Valued in natural perfumery as a soft, floral, woody accent – adds a gentle, neroli-like elegance and refined, rosy warmth to blends
  • A lovely addition to diffuser blends, bringing a soft, fresh, gentle atmosphere to any space
  • Used in candle making and soap crafting for its delicate, refined, floral-woody character
  • Blends beautifully with neroli, ho wood, rosewood, lavender, geranium, bergamot, sandalwood, cedarwood, ylang ylang, and frankincense oils
  • Popular in artisan fragrance work for floral, woody, fresh, and contemporary compositions
  • A sustainable and more affordable alternative to neroli or rosewood, offering a similar soft, floral-woody quality
  • An excellent blending oil that adds smoothness and elegance without overpowering other elements
