Myrrh Essential Oil is gently steam distilled from the wildcrafted resin of the small and thorny Commiphora myrrha trees growing in arid areas of Somalia, East Africa. Myrrh Oil has a scent which is warm and earthy. It is a rich deep aroma and because of its excellent fixative properties it can be used in natural perfume blends. Myrrh oil has a very long history for use and was an ingredient of the famous Egyptian perfume kyphi, and also an important ingredient in embalming in ancient Egypt.

- Myrrh oil is a resinoid – it may be thick, viscous, or semi-solid at room temperature. Gently warming the bottle will improve pourability
- Myrrh is available in several forms – steam-distilled essential oil, CO2 extract, and resinoid, - each with different characteristics.
- There are several species of Commiphora used to produce myrrh oil – Commiphora myrrha (common myrrh), Commiphora guidottii (opoponax/sweet myrrh), and Commiphora erythraea (bisabol myrrh) are the most common. Each produces a distinctly different oil.
- Myrrh oil contains furanosesquiterpenes – these compounds may cause photosensitivity in some individuals. As a precaution, avoid direct sunlight or UV exposure on skin for up to 12 hours after topical application
- Always dilute with a suitable carrier oil before applying to skin
- May cause skin sensitivity in some individuals – always perform a patch test before use
- Not recommended for use during pregnancy
- Keep out of reach of children and pets
- Store in a cool, dark place to preserve freshness – myrrh oil improves and deepens with age when stored correctly
