Lemon Essential Oil (Citrus limon)

Origin: Native to South and Southeast Asia, now widely cultivated across the Mediterranean, the United States (particularly California and Florida), Argentina, Brazil, and other subtropical regions. Italy and Argentina are among the most notable producers for essential oil. The oil is cold-pressed from the rind (peel) of the fresh fruit, which belongs to the Rutaceae (citrus) family. A steam-distilled version also exists and has a slightly different, less vibrant scent profile. Cold-pressed lemon oil retains the full, bright, sparkling character of the fresh peel. Lemon has been one of the most widely used and universally recognised aromatic materials for centuries, with a deeply established place in perfumery, household products, and artisan fragrance work.

Scent: Sharp, bright, and intensely citrusy with a fresh, tangy, clean character. Vibrant and immediately recognisable - there's a distinctive, zesty, sparkling freshness balanced by a subtle, sweet, candy-like undertone. Faintly green and herbaceous with a crisp, dry, peel-like depth. Light, cheerful, and uplifting – a classic, universally appealing citrus scent with remarkable clarity and brilliance. One of the most recognisable and widely loved scents in the essential oil world.

Uses:

  • A staple of natural perfumery – one of the most widely used and versatile citrus materials, adding bright, sparkling freshness and clean, zesty energy to blends
  • A popular addition to diffuser blends, bringing a bright, clean, cheerful atmosphere to any space
  • Widely used in candle making and soap crafting for its bold, fresh, classic citrus character
  • One of the most popular oils in natural household products for its clean, fresh, bright scent profile
  • Blends beautifully with lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary, frankincense, bergamot, ylang ylang, cedarwood, ginger, and geranium oils
  • Popular in artisan fragrance work for citrus, fresh, cologne, and aromatic compositions
  • A classic ingredient in eau de cologne and fresh fragrance formulations
