Kadam Blossom CO₂ Extract — A Little-Known Tropical Floral from Thailand

The kadam tree, Neolamarckia cadamba, is a fast-growing tropical tree of South and South-East Asia, known by many names — kadam, cadamba, burflower-tree — and long associated in the region with its fragrant, ball-shaped flower heads. Though it is rarely met with in Western perfumery, its blossoms carry a rich, sweet, tropical fragrance that perfumers who know champaca and the exotic white florals will find intriguing.

This extract is obtained from the flowers by supercritical CO₂ extraction, a gentle, solvent-free method that preserves the character of delicate blossoms. It is a rare material for natural perfumers looking for something genuinely different from the usual floral palette.

Scent Profile

Sweet, tropical and floral with a warm woody undertone, carrying fruity facets and honeyed, champaca-like nuances that give it a rounded, glowing character. It sits comfortably between the creamy white florals and the fruity-honeyed materials, with a depth that unfolds as it dries down.

Perfumery Applications

A characterful heart note for exotic and tropical florals, soliflores built around champaca-like warmth, oriental florals and fruity-floral structures. Its sweetness and honeyed quality also make it interesting in gourmand and amber accords. Start with a trace and build gradually, allowing time on a smelling strip to appreciate its full development.

Blending Suggestions

Pairs beautifully with champaca, jasmine, ylang ylang, tuberose, orange blossom, osmanthus, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin, labdanum, bergamot and mandarin.
