Frangipani Essential Oil (Plumeria alba)
Origin - Bali, Indonesia
Origin: Native to Central America and the Caribbean, now widely cultivated across tropical regions worldwide. Indonesia, particularly Bali and Java, is one of the most notable producers of frangipani oil, where the tree holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. The oil steam distilled from the fresh flowers of the frangipani tree, which belongs to the Apocynaceae (dogbane) family. Also known as plumeria, temple tree, or graveyard flower, frangipani is one of the most iconic and recognisable tropical flowers in the world. In Balinese culture, the flowers are used extensively in temple offerings, garlands, and ceremonial decoration. The two main species used in extraction are Plumeria alba (white frangipani) and Plumeria rubra (red/pink frangipani), each with a subtly different scent profile.
Scent: Rich, sweet, and lushly floral with a warm, creamy, tropical character. Exotic and enveloping – there's a distinctive, soft, jasmine-like sweetness balanced by a subtle, fruity, peach-like warmth. Faintly spicy and honeyed with a delicate, green, dewy freshness. Subtly powdery and balsamic with a gentle, coconut-like, almost buttery depth. Opulent, sensual, and remarkably long-lasting – a classic, intoxicating tropical floral scent of extraordinary beauty and richness. Indonesian frangipani tends to have a particularly lush, warm, and honeyed quality, influenced by the tropical terroir.
