Hop Essential Oil (Humulus lupulus)
Origin: Native to Europe, western Asia, and North America, now widely cultivated across Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States (particularly the Pacific Northwest), England, and other temperate regions. Germany and the United States are among the largest producers. The oil is steam-distilled from the fresh or dried female flower cones (strobiles) of the hop plant, which belongs to the Cannabaceae (hemp) family. Hops are most widely known for their use in brewing, but the essential oil has gained increasing recognition in perfumery and artisan fragrance work for its unique, complex character. The hop plant is a vigorous climbing vine that can grow several metres in a single season. It is closely related to hemp (Cannabis sativa) but is a different genus and species. Hops have been valued in European aromatic traditions for centuries.
Scent: Rich, warm, and distinctly herbaceous with a complex, green, slightly spicy character. Bold and aromatic – there's a distinctive, earthy, resinous warmth balanced by a fresh, grassy, slightly citrusy brightness. Faintly bitter and dry with a subtle, fruity, almost floral depth. Subtly woody and balsamic with a delicate, hay-like, tea-like undertone. Dense, complex, and long-lasting – a unique, multilayered herbal scent that is at once green, earthy, spicy, and gently bitter. One of the most distinctive and unusual herbaceous oils available in perfumery.
