Himalayan Cedarwood Essential Oil (Cedrus deodara)
Origin: Native to the western Himalayas, particularly India, Nepal, and Pakistan, where it grows at high altitudes. The oil is steam-distilled from the wood and sawdust of the Himalayan cedar, which belongs to the Pinaceae (pine) family. The name "deodara" derives from the Sanskrit "devadaru," meaning "timber of the gods," reflecting its sacred status in Hindu and Buddhist traditions. It is one of the true cedars, distinct from Atlas cedar (Cedrus atlantica) and Virginia cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana), which belong to different genera.
Scent: Deep, warm, and richly woody with a soft, balsamic sweetness. Smooth and velvety - slightly smoky and resinous with a gentle, earthy depth. There's a faint, dry, pencil-like quality balanced by a subtle, creamy warmth. More mellow and rounded than Atlas cedar, with a quiet, grounding presence. Elegant, long-lasting, and beautifully understated.
