Green Tea Absolute (Camellia sinensis)
Origin: Native to East Asia, particularly China, Japan, and parts of Southeast Asia. China and Japan are the most notable sources for aromatic extraction, with China being the largest producer. The absolute is solvent-extracted from the fresh or dried leaves of the tea plant, which belongs to the Theaceae (tea) family. Camellia sinensis is the same plant that produces all varieties of tea – green, black, white, and oolong – with the differences arising from processing methods rather than botanical origin. Green tea absolute is specifically produced from unfermented (unoxidised) leaves, which retain a brighter, fresher, more vegetal character than fermented black tea. Tea has been one of the most culturally significant plants in human history, deeply revered across Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other Asian traditions for thousands of years. Green tea absolute is a relatively niche but increasingly sought-after material in modern perfumery, valued for its distinctive, clean, leafy character.
Scent: Fresh, green, and delicately herbaceous with a soft, sweet, slightly bitter character. Clean and refined – there's a distinctive, bright, leafy, vegetal freshness balanced by a subtle, warm, hay-like, toasty depth. Faintly smoky and earthy with a delicate, powdery, almost floral undertone. Subtly sweet and balsamic with a gentle, dry, woody warmth. Elegant, understated, and beautifully nuanced – a clean, contemplative, distinctly tea-like scent that evokes the quiet ceremony and ritual of traditional tea preparation. Unlike any other green or herbaceous material in perfumery, with an unmistakable, authentic tea quality.
