There is no material in natural perfumery quite like orris butter. Derived from the aged rhizomes of Iris pallida — the prestige iris species cultivated in the Grasse region of France — its production is among the most labour-intensive processes in the entire fragrance industry. After harvesting, the roots must be dried and aged for a minimum of two to three years before the slow oxidative transformation of triterpenoid precursors yields irones — the extraordinarily rare ketone molecules responsible for orris butter's legendary scent. No shortcut exists. Time is the irreplaceable ingredient.

This material carries an 18% irones content — a mark of genuine quality and extended aging — and is supplied in a perfumery-ready 50% dilution in natural Triethyl Citrate (TEC), derived from citric acid from citrus fruit.
