French Honey Lavender Absolute — Where the Hive Meets the Field
This Honey Lavender Absolute is something more specific and considerably more beautiful than either honey or lavender alone: an absolute extracted by H Reynaud Fils, established 1898, from the honeycomb of beehives deliberately positioned at the edges of the lavender fields of Provence, where the bees forage almost exclusively on lavender blossom throughout the flowering season. The honey they produce carries the lavender's aromatic signature deep into its structure — and the absolute extracted from that honeycomb captures both simultaneously, in a single material of quite extraordinary character.
The result is a material that no blending can replicate: the two notes are inseparable, fused at source rather than combined at the bench. Genuinely hard to find and genuinely worth seeking out.
Scent Profile
The opening is warm, rich, and immediately honeyed — a deep beeswax-honey sweetness that is rounder and more complex than either honey absolute or lavender absolute alone. As it develops, the lavender character emerges with beautiful clarity — not the sharp, medicinal quality of a distilled oil, but something softer and more floral, sweetened by the honey in which it has been steeped. The drydown is long, warm, and balsamic — a soft honey-lavender trace of considerable tenacity.
Perfumery Applications
In fougère compositions it replaces synthetic honey accords with genuine depth and warmth. In oriental structures it adds a beeswax-honey sweetness of unusual quality. In lavender soliflores it provides an enriching depth that transforms the note from familiar to truly beautiful. In gourmand compositions the honeyed warmth makes it a natural centrepiece. Even in small amounts it adds a quality of warmth and naturalness that is immediately felt.
Blending Suggestions
Pairs beautifully with lavender absolute, beeswax absolute, vanilla, tonka bean, benzoin, labdanum, coumarin, bergamot, lemon, rose absolute, geranium, clary sage, cedarwood, sandalwood, and soft musks.
