Eucalyptus Peppermint Dives Essential Oil (Eucalyptus dives)
Origin: Native to Australia, primarily found across the tablelands and mountain regions of New South Wales and Victoria. Australia remains the primary producer, with some cultivation in South Africa and parts of southern Europe. The oil is steam-distilled from the leaves and terminal branches of the broad-leaved peppermint eucalyptus, which belongs to the Myrtaceae (myrtle) family. Eucalyptus dives is one of over 700 eucalyptus species and produces two main chemotypes – ct. piperitone (the most common) and ct. cineole. The piperitone chemotype has a distinctly different scent profile from the more widely known Eucalyptus globulus and Eucalyptus radiata, with a stronger, more minty, peppermint-like quality. The common name "peppermint eucalyptus" reflects this distinctive minty character. It has an established place in Australian aromatic traditions and has gained increasing recognition in international perfumery and artisan fragrance work.
Scent: Fresh, bright, and boldly minty with a sharp, camphoraceous, peppery character. Crisp and bracing – there's a distinctive, strong, peppermint-like freshness balanced by a subtle, warm, earthy, eucalyptus-like depth. Faintly herbaceous and green with a dry, slightly woody undertone. More minty, more peppery, and less sweet than Eucalyptus globulus or Eucalyptus radiata, with a bolder, more penetrating, almost mentholated quality. Sharp, vibrant, and immediately arresting – a powerful, distinctive eucalyptus scent that bridges the worlds of eucalyptus and peppermint.
