Clove Leaf Essential Oil (Syzygium aromaticum)

Origin: Native to the Maluku Islands (Spice Islands) of Indonesia, now widely cultivated across Indonesia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and India. The oil is steam-distilled from the dried leaves of the clove tree, which belongs to the Myrtaceae (myrtle) family. Clove leaf oil is produced from the same tree as clove bud oil, but from a different plant part, resulting in a distinctly different chemical profile and scent character. Clove leaf oil is produced in much larger quantities than clove bud oil, making it more affordable and widely available. It has an established place in aromatic traditions and natural product making.

Scent: Sharp, warm, and strongly spicy with a pungent, woody, herbaceous character. Bolder and more aggressive than clove bud oil - there's a raw, earthy sharpness with less of the sweet, fruity complexity of the bud. Slightly bitter and dry with a faint, smoky, balsamic undertone. Powerful, assertive, and immediately recognisable as clove, but rougher, more rugged, and less refined than its bud counterpart.

• Clove leaf oil is very high in eugenol - typically higher than clove bud oil - always use very sparingly and dilute well with a suitable carrier oil before applying to skin
• May cause significant skin sensitivity and irritation if not properly diluted - always perform a patch test before use
