Clove Bud Essential Oil (Syzygium aromaticum)
Origin: Native to the Maluku Islands (Spice Islands) of Indonesia, now widely cultivated across Indonesia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and India. Indonesia remains the largest producer. The oil is steam-distilled from the dried, unopened flower buds of the clove tree, which belongs to the Myrtaceae (myrtle) family. Clove is one of the most historically significant spices - it was among the earliest traded commodities, driving exploration and commerce across ancient trade routes for centuries. It is important to note that clove bud oil is distinct from clove leaf and clove stem oils, which have different chemical profiles and scent characteristics. Clove bud oil is the most prized and widely used in perfumery and aromatic traditions.
Scent: Warm, rich, and intensely spicy with a deep, sweet, aromatic character. Bold and immediately recognisable - there's a sharp, pungent, peppery bite balanced by a soft, fruity, almost vanilla-like sweetness. Subtly woody with a faint, balsamic, leathery depth. Full-bodied, powerful, and long-lasting - a classic, commanding spice scent with remarkable warmth and complexity.
Uses:
- Valued in natural perfumery as a warm, spicy accent - adds rich depth, warmth, and an opulent quality to blends
- A distinctive addition to diffuser blends, bringing a warm, spicy atmosphere to any space
- Widely used in candle making and soap crafting for its bold, classic spice character
- Used in natural household products for its strong, warm scent profile
- Blends beautifully with orange, cinnamon, vanilla, bergamot, frankincense, sandalwood, rose, lavender, and cedarwood oils
- Popular in artisan fragrance work for spicy, oriental, gourmand, and festive compositions
