Cassie Flower Essential Oil (Acacia farnesiana)
Also known as Sweet Acacia
Origin: Native to Central and South America, now widely naturalised across tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, including southern France, Egypt, India, and parts of Africa. France and Egypt are the most notable producers of cassie for the perfumery industry. The oil is extracted from the fresh, fragrant flowers of the sweet acacia tree, which belongs to the Fabaceae (legume) family. The name "cassie" derives from the French perfumery tradition. It is closely related to mimosa (Acacia dealbata) but produces a distinctly different, richer, more complex absolute. Cassie has been a valued ingredient in French perfumery since the 19th century and remains a rare, highly prized material among artisan and fine fragrance creators.
Scent: Rich, warm, and deeply floral with a sweet, powdery, violet-like character. Lush and opulent – there's a distinctive, honeyed, balsamic sweetness balanced by a subtle, green, herbaceous freshness. Slightly spicy and musky with a faint, woody, hay-like depth. Velvety, complex, and remarkably long-lasting – a sensual, exotic floral scent with a warm, animalic undertone that adds extraordinary depth and richness. Often compared to violet and mimosa but darker, deeper, and more complex.
Uses:
- Highly prized in natural perfumery as a rich, warm, powdery floral accent – adds extraordinary depth, warmth, and an exotic, honeyed quality to blends
- A beautiful addition to diffuser blends, bringing a warm, lush, sophisticated atmosphere to any space
- Used in candle making and soap crafting for its luxurious, rich, floral character
- Blends beautifully with violet, mimosa, rose, ylang ylang, sandalwood, frankincense, bergamot, cedarwood, and vanilla oils
- Popular in artisan fragrance work for floral, powdery, oriental, and chypre compositions
- A rare and precious material that rewards skilled blending – a small amount adds remarkable depth and complexity
