Carrot Seed Absolute (Daucus carota)

Origin: Native to Europe and western Asia, now widely cultivated across France, India, Egypt, and other temperate and subtropical regions. France is the most notable source for aromatic extraction. The absolute is solvent-extracted from the dried seeds (fruit) of the wild carrot plant, which belongs to the Apiaceae (carrot/parsley) family. Carrot seed absolute is distinct from carrot seed essential oil (which is steam-distilled), carrot root extract (extracted from the orange root), and carrot carrier oil (a macerated oil) – these are all very different products with very different characteristics. The wild carrot is also known as Queen Anne's lace and has been valued in European aromatic traditions for centuries. The absolute retains a fuller, richer, more complex scent profile than the steam-distilled essential oil, capturing a broader range of aromatic compounds from the seeds. Genuine carrot seed absolute is relatively uncommon and is a niche, specialised material in perfumery.

Scent: Rich, warm, and deeply earthy with a complex, woody, slightly sweet character. Dense and multifaceted – there's a distinctive, dry, rooty, iris-like warmth balanced by a subtle, sweet, honeyed, almost violet-like depth. Faintly herbaceous and green with a soft, powdery, balsamic undertone. Subtly spicy and peppery with a gentle, warm, hay-like, amber-like richness. • Carrot seed absolute may be thick, viscous, or dark in colour – this is normal and does not indicate a quality issue. Gently warming the bottle will improve pourability
