Cape Chamomile Essential Oil (Eriocephalus punctulatus)

Also known as Snow Bush

Origin: Native to South Africa, where it grows wild in the dry, mountainous regions of the Western and Eastern Cape. The oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops of the plant, which belongs to the Asteraceae (daisy) family. Despite its common name, Cape chamomile is not a true chamomile - it is botanically unrelated to both German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) and Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile). It is a uniquely South African aromatic plant that has gained increasing recognition in international perfumery and artisan fragrance work for its distinctive, fruity scent profile.

Scent: Sweet, fruity, and delicately floral with a soft, warm, berry-like character. Gentle and rounded - there's a distinctive, apple-like sweetness layered with a light, herbaceous brightness. Subtly woody with a faint, dry, hay-like undertone. Delicate, elegant, and beautifully balanced - a unique, charming scent that is sweeter, fruitier, and lighter than traditional chamomile oils.

Uses:

  • Valued in natural perfumery as a sweet, fruity, floral accent - adds a soft, delicate warmth and an unusual fruity quality to blends
  • A lovely addition to diffuser blends, bringing a gentle, warm atmosphere to any space
  • Used in candle making and soap crafting for its unique, sweet, fruity character
  • Blends beautifully with lavender, bergamot, rose, geranium, sandalwood, cedarwood, ylang ylang, and neroli oils
  • Popular in artisan fragrance work for floral, fruity, and soft compositions
  • An interesting alternative to traditional chamomile oils for those seeking a sweeter, fruitier scent profile
