Balkan Mountain Geranium Root CO₂ Wax — Pure, Solid, Uncompromised

Geranium macrorrhizum — known as zdravets in Bulgaria, and as bigroot geranium, Bulgarian geranium or rock crane's-bill elsewhere — is a hardy perennial of the Balkan mountains, valued for its aromatic rhizomes. It is a true geranium, but a different plant from the rose geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) of familiar essential oils, and its scent is less sweet and more grounded. This CO₂ wax is extracted from the rhizomes and offers a rare chance to work with it in concentrated form.

Supplied here in its pure, undiluted, solid wax form — exactly as extracted, with no carrier of any kind added. This is the genuine article for perfumers who prefer to prepare their own dilutions, or who want to work directly with the material in its most concentrated and authentic state.

Scent Profile

Earthy, rosy and woody, with a slightly green edge and soft balsamic undertones. It opens with herbal, geranium-like notes, then unfolds into spicy, resinous depths and dries down into a warm, grounding and subtly masculine finish. Refined yet robust, it is less sweet than rose geranium and more grounded than standard geranium oil.

Perfumery Applications

Valued as a fixative and base note, bridging floral hearts and resinous bases in floral, oriental and woody compositions. It also suits anhydrous work such as solid perfumes and balms. Introduce it gradually when building a composition.

Usage Note

This wax is solid at room temperature. To prepare for use, gently warm in a water bath at around 90°C to melt it into a liquid, then dilute with your solvent of choice according to your own formulation preferences.

Blending Suggestions

Pairs beautifully with rose, lavender, jasmine, neroli, frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood and vetiver.
