Originally native to the subtropical regions of Asia, Gardenia jasminoides has naturalised across a broad swathe of North America (USDA zones 7–11), where its waxy white blossoms have long captivated gardeners and perfumers alike. The absolute is produced via solvent extraction of the flowers, yielding a light yellow material of considerable tenacity and radiance.
