Wheatgerm Oil - Pure Natural Oil for Skincare
Extracted from the germ of wheat kernels (Triticum vulgare), this rich, concentrated oil is valued for its exceptional vitamin E content and nourishing composition. Cold-pressed to preserve its natural properties, wheatgerm oil has been a traditional ingredient in natural cosmetic formulations, prized for its thick texture and distinctive character.
About This Oil
Wheatgerm oil is cold-pressed from the germ (embryo) of wheat kernels, which contains the highest concentration of nutrients in the grain. This oil typically has a distinctive dark golden to amber-orange appearance and a characteristic strong, wheat-like aroma that is immediately recognizable.
The wheat germ represents only about 2.5% of the wheat kernel but contains the majority of the grain's nutritional content. The oil extracted from this small but nutrient-dense portion is exceptionally rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, making it one of the most concentrated natural sources of these compounds.
What sets wheatgerm oil apart is its exceptionally thick, viscous texture and its very high natural vitamin E content. Due to its thickness and strong aroma, it's typically used in small amounts, blended with lighter carrier oils, or added at low percentages to cosmetic formulations where it serves both as a conditioning ingredient and natural preservative.
Wheatgerm oil has a heavy, rich texture that requires consideration before use. Its distinctive wheat aroma and deep colour mean it's often used as an additive to other formulations rather than as a primary base oil. Despite its polyunsaturated fatty acid content, the oil's high vitamin E levels provide some natural protection against oxidation.
