About This Oil

Thistle oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of Carthamus tinctorius, commonly known as safflower or thistle plant, an ancient crop cultivated for thousands of years across Asia, the Middle East, and Mediterranean regions. This oil typically has a very pale yellow to almost colourless appearance and an extremely mild, neutral aroma that makes it exceptionally versatile in cosmetic formulations.

The thistle plant, with its distinctive orange-yellow thistle-like flowers, has been grown for millennia, with evidence of cultivation dating back to ancient Egypt. The seeds yield an oil that is valued for its clean profile and practical characteristics in cosmetic applications.

Thistle oil has a lightweight texture that absorbs readily into skin without leaving a greasy residue. Its completely neutral profile makes it an ideal base for blending with essential oils or for use in formulations where the oil should remain undetectable.

• High in linoleic acid (omega-6) OR high in oleic acid (omega-9) depending on variety
• Traditional variety: very high in linoleic acid with smaller amounts of oleic acid
