Rose Attar is crafted in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh - India's historic perfume capital, with an attar-making tradition stretching back over 400 years. Rose is the most celebrated and prestigious of all the classical Kannauj attar flowers, and its distillation is considered the pinnacle of the master perfumer's art. Fresh rose petals - traditionally from the highly prized Damask rose, Rosa damascena - are carefully harvested before dawn when their fragrance is at its absolute peak, then hydro-distilled over pure sandalwood oil using the traditional deg-bhapka method, recognised by UNESCO as part of India's intangible cultural heritage. The yield is extraordinarily small - it takes thousands of rose petals to produce even a modest quantity of true rose attar - which contributes to its rarity and exceptional value. No alcohol, no synthetic fixatives - only the finest natural materials and time.
