Melissa Leaf Essential Oil (Melissa officinalis)
Origin: Native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean region, now widely cultivated across Europe, North America, and parts of Asia. The oil is steam-distilled from the fresh leaves and flowering tops of the plant, which belongs to the Lamiaceae (mint) family. Commonly known as lemon balm, melissa has been cherished since ancient Greek and Roman times and has a long history of use in perfumery and aromatic traditions. It is one of the most expensive essential oils due to the extremely low oil yield from the plant - it takes a large quantity of plant material to produce a small amount of oil.
This oil has been grown on unpolluted sustainable land
Scent: Fresh, bright, and sweetly lemony with a soft, herbaceous warmth. Light and uplifting - delicately citrusy but distinctly greener and more complex than lemon oil. There's a gentle, honey-like sweetness underneath with faint floral and slightly grassy undertones. Clean, refined, and beautifully balanced.
Uses:
- Valued in natural perfumery for its fresh, citrus-herbal character — adds a delicate, luminous quality to blends
- A lovely addition to diffuser blends, bringing a light, fresh atmosphere to any space
- Used in candle making and soap crafting for its clean, uplifting scent profile
- Blends well with lavender, geranium, rose, chamomile, frankincense, bergamot, and ylang ylang oils
- Popular in artisan fragrance work for its refined, natural citrus-green quality
