Lavandin Abrialis Absolute — A True Rarity of the Lavender Family

Lavandin absolute is one of those materials that even experienced natural perfumers rarely encounter — a genuinely uncommon extraction that sits in a fascinating aromatic space between true lavender absolute and the more familiar lavandin essential oil, possessing qualities that neither fully captures. The Abrialis clone — Lavandula × intermedia 'Abrialis' — is one of the oldest and most celebrated lavandin cultivars, developed in Provence and once the dominant variety in the French lavender fields before being largely superseded by the higher-yielding Grosso clone. Its absolute, produced in France by H Reynaud Fils, established 1898, is a dark green, deeply aromatic material of considerable complexity and unusual depth.
