Juniper Berry Essential Oil (Juniperus communis)

Origin: Native to Europe, northern Asia, and North America, found widely across Scandinavia, the Balkans, Italy, France, Canada, and other temperate regions. The Balkans (particularly Bosnia, Croatia, and Albania) and Italy are among the most notable producers. The oil is steam-distilled from the ripe, dried berries (cones) of the common juniper, which belongs to the Cupressaceae (cypress) family. Juniper berry oil is distinct from juniper wood or juniper branch oil, which are distilled from different plant parts and have different, less refined scent profiles. It is also distinct from other juniper species such as Juniperus virginiana (Virginia cedarwood) and Juniperus oxycedrus (Cade), each producing very different oils. Juniper has been valued in European aromatic and cultural traditions for thousands of years, with references dating back to ancient Greek and Roman times. 

Scent: Fresh, clean, and crisply woody with a bright, slightly sweet, resinous character. Vibrant and immediately recognisable – there's a distinctive, sharp, green, pine-like freshness balanced by a subtle, warm, peppery, balsamic depth. Faintly fruity and citrusy with a delicate, dry, smoky undertone. • Note that juniper berry oil is distilled from the berries and is considered superior to juniper wood or branch oil, which has a different, less refined scent profile and chemical composition
• Distinct from other juniper species such as Virginia cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) and Cade (Juniperus oxycedrus) 
• Always dilute with a suitable carrier oil before applying to skin
• May cause skin sensitivity – always perform a patch test before use
