Ho Wood Essential Oil (Cinnamomum camphora ct. linalool)
Origin: Native to China, Japan, and Taiwan. The oil is steam-distilled from the wood and bark of the ho wood tree, which belongs to the Lauraceae (laurel) family. Ho wood is a chemotype of the camphor tree that is naturally high in linalool, giving it a distinctly different scent profile from camphor oil. It has gained popularity as a sustainable alternative to rosewood oil (Aniba rosaeodora), which is now endangered and heavily restricted.
Scent: Soft, sweet, and gently floral with a warm, woody undertone. Smooth and delicate - predominantly linalool-rich, giving it a refined, rosy-fresh quality reminiscent of rosewood. There's a subtle, clean camphoraceous whisper beneath the sweetness, balanced by a light, creamy warmth. Calming, elegant, and beautifully understated.
Uses:
- Highly valued in natural perfumery as a soft, floral-woody accent — adds elegance and smoothness to blends
- A popular sustainable alternative to rosewood oil in fragrance formulation
- A lovely addition to diffuser blends, bringing a gentle, refined atmosphere to any space
- Used in candle making and soap crafting for its delicate, sophisticated scent profile
- Blends beautifully with lavender, bergamot, geranium, ylang ylang, cedarwood, frankincense, rose, and sandalwood oils
- Popular in artisan fragrance work for floral, woody, and oriental compositions
