Grapefruit Essential Oil (Citrus paradisi)

Origin: Native to the Caribbean, believed to be a natural hybrid between sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) and pomelo (Citrus maxima). Now widely cultivated across the United States (particularly Florida and California), Israel, Brazil, South Africa, and other subtropical regions. The United States is the largest producer. The oil is cold-pressed from the rind (peel) of the ripe fruit, which belongs to the Rutaceae (citrus) family. A steam-distilled version also exists but is less common. Grapefruit has been cultivated since the 18th century and has a well-established place in perfumery and aromatic traditions.

Scent: Bright, fresh, and zesty with a sharp, tangy, bittersweet character. Vibrant and immediately uplifting – there's a distinctive, sparkling, citrusy freshness balanced by a subtle, sweet, slightly floral depth. Faintly green and herbaceous with a crisp, dry, peel-like undertone. Clean, cheerful, and universally appealing – a classic, bold citrus scent with a distinctive, bittersweet edge that sets it apart from sweeter citrus oils like orange and tangerine.

• Cold-pressed grapefruit oil is phototoxic – avoid direct sunlight or UV exposure on skin for up to 12 hours after topical application. Steam-distilled grapefruit oil is not phototoxic 
• Always dilute with a suitable carrier oil before applying to skin
• Perform a patch test before use
• Consult a qualified professional before use if pregnant or nursing
• Keep out of reach of children and pets
• Store in a cool, dark place to preserve freshness – citrus oils have a shorter shelf life than most essential oils and can oxidise over time. Oxidised oil is more likely to cause skin sensitivity
