Fenugreek Seed Oil, Cold-Pressed (Trigonella foenum-graecum)

Origin: Native to the eastern Mediterranean and western Asia, now widely cultivated across India, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Ethiopia, and parts of southern Europe. India and Egypt are the largest producers. The oil is cold-pressed from the dried seeds of the fenugreek plant, which belongs to the Fabaceae (legume) family. Fenugreek is one of the oldest cultivated plants in the world, with a history of use dating back to ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman times. The seeds have been valued across Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian cultures for thousands of years. Cold-pressed fenugreek seed oil retains the full, natural character of the seed, including its distinctive, warm, maple-like aroma.

Texture and Appearance: A medium-weight oil with a smooth, slightly viscous consistency. Colour ranges from pale golden yellow to amber in its cold-pressed state. Absorbs at a moderate rate. As an unrefined, cold-pressed product, natural colour and consistency may vary slightly between batches – this is normal and reflects the authentic, minimally processed nature of the oil.

Scent: Warm, sweet, and distinctively aromatic with a rich, maple-like, slightly caramel character. Bold and immediately recognisable – there's a distinctive, nutty, toasted, curry-like warmth balanced by a subtle, sweet, butterscotch-like depth. Faintly earthy and herbaceous with a gentle, spicy, celery-like undertone. Dense, warm, and long-lasting – a unique, savoury-sweet scent unlike any other carrier oil.

Uses:

  • Used as a carrier oil for diluting essential oils before topical application
  • A distinctive base oil in artisan soap making, contributing a warm, rich character
  • Used in candle making for its unique, warm, maple-like scent profile
  • A premium base for body oils, balms, and salves in artisan cosmetic formulation
  • Popular in artisan hair oil formulations
  • An excellent carrier for blending with essential oils in artisan body care products
  • Used in artisan lotion, cream, and moisturiser formulations
  • Well suited for scented products where its distinctive, warm, maple-like aroma complements the overall fragrance profile

Important Information:

  • For External Use Only
  • This is a cold-pressed carrier/vegetable oil, not an essential oil – ensure accurate labelling
  • Fenugreek belongs to the Fabaceae (legume) family – individuals with known allergies to legumes, peanuts, or chickpeas should exercise caution, as cross-reactivity is possible
  • Fenugreek seed oil has a strong, distinctive aroma – be aware that it may dominate blends if used in large quantities
  • As a cold-pressed, unrefined product, natural colour and consistency may vary slightly between batches
  • Perform a patch test before use
  • Consult a qualified professional before use if pregnant or nursing
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Store in a cool, dark place to preserve freshness – cold-pressed oils have a limited shelf life and should be used within 6–12 months of opening
  • Fenugreek is one of the oldest plants used by man in places such as India and China
