Coriander Seed Essential Oil (Coriandrum sativum)
Origin: Native to the Mediterranean and western Asia, now widely cultivated across India, Russia, Morocco, Eastern Europe, and parts of South America. India and Russia are among the largest producers. The oil is steam-distilled from the dried, ripe seeds (fruit) of the coriander plant, which belongs to the Apiaceae (carrot/parsley) family. Coriander is one of the oldest known aromatic plants, referenced in ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman texts. It has a long-established place in perfumery and aromatic traditions.
Scent: Warm, sweet, and softly spicy with a distinctive woody, slightly floral character. Gently peppery and aromatic with a fresh, linalool-rich brightness. There's a subtle, musky, nutty depth beneath the initial sweetness, balanced by a faint, dry, herbaceous undertone. Smooth, rounded, and refined — a versatile, understated scent with surprising complexity.
Uses:
- Valued in natural perfumery as a warm, spicy-floral accent — adds subtle complexity and smoothness to blends
- A distinctive addition to diffuser blends, bringing a warm, sophisticated atmosphere to any space
- Used in candle making and soap crafting for its refined, aromatic character
- Blends beautifully with bergamot, sandalwood, frankincense, ginger, cardamom, clary sage, cedarwood, and citrus oils
