Description

Rose Geranium Pure Essential Oil

Botanical Name: Pelagonium graveolens

Plant Part: Leaves and flowering tops

Extraction Method: Steam Distillation

Origin: Reunion Islands

Rose Geranium is a perennial shrub, often used in hedgerows, and will stand up to about one metre high (3 feet) with pointed leaves, serrated at the edges and pinkish-white flowers. The oil is pale yellow green. As the name implies, many of the chemical constituents are similar to that of Rose essential oil and while it should not be mistaken as an alternative to Rose, it does have some of the Rose floral notes in a base that is both sweet and herbaceous.

Rose Geranium is often used to calm anxiety and other nervous conditions and will lift the spirits. It can be useful in depression and during mood swings related to hormonal shifts. Rose Geranium oil is both soothing and energising and will create positive energy when used in a diffuser with a citrus-like bergamot or sweet orange. It is also frequently used in soap making, skin care and massage applications.

Rose geranium is suitable for all skin types and may be of help in the treatment of inflammatory skin conditions and infections. It balances sebum which makes it very useful for skin that is very oily or very dry. It is also a very effective oil to use as a natural insect repellent formula, along with citronella and lemongrass.
