Origin: India
Between 15-20 metres high, this massive tree has a thick trunk. It’s drooping branches are covered with long leaves. These latter, entire and rather big, are pointed. The small flowers, greenish white, form sparse clusters; male and female flowers appear on different trees. 6-7cm in diameter, the brown round fruit contain many 2cm long seeds rich in oil (roughly 60%).
Chaulmoogra belongs to the Hydnocarpus family, which is a common plant family in Southern Asia.

Consistency: Very heavy and viscous, (This oil needs to be gently warmed and stirred well before use as it will solidify at about 7c)

Aromatic Scent: Chaulmoogra has a mild, woody aroma.

Pure Essential Oils should always be diluted with a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil before using on the skin.
A patch test is always recommended before use to see if your skin is sensitive to the product.
If blending into creams, lotions, body butters etc, 1-2% maximum of the pure Absolute oil or Essential oil to 100% of the product is usually about right.
