Orris Absolute is extracted from the roots which are called rhizomes of the European Iris species Iris germanica, Iris florentina, and Iris pallida, all known as Orris Roots. The mature rhizomes of the plant produce Irones which gives the distinctive powdery notes of Orris. The higher the concentration of irones the stronger the powdery note will be. A well produced Orris Absolute which contains a high percentage of Irones is highly prized for use as a fixative in perfumery and for its violet like notes.

Orris has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiseptic qualities and is useful for relieving irritated skin conditions. It can also be used in many cosmetic and skin care products.

Pure Absolute Oils or Essential Oils should always be diluted with a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil before using on the skin. A patch test is recommended to see if your skin is sensitive to the product. If blending into creams, lotions, body butters etc, 1-2% maximum of the pure absolute oil or essential oil to 100% of the product is usually about right.
